Avocado is not a fruit that we normally associate with Indian food…but try this Avocado Salad recipe and you will be really surprised. The colors, the texture and the aroma blend in so beautifully….it’s a treat with any meal.
Ingredients:
Avocado – 1, ripe
Tomato – 1 med, diced
Green Onions – 3 stalks, finely chopped
Green Chili – 1 or to taste, finely chopped
Cilantro – 5 sprigs, finely chopped
Roasted Cumin Powder – ½ tsp
Black Pepper Powder – ¼ tsp
Salt – to taste
Lime/Lemon Juice – to taste
Method:
1. Peel and cut the Avocado into cubes and set aside.
2. In a bowl, mix the following well– Green Onions, Tomatoes, Cilantro, Cumin Powder, Black pepper powder, Green chilies.
3. Add in the Salt and Lemon/Lime Juice and mix again.
4. Gently mix in the diced Avocado, being very careful not to mash it.
5. Serves 4.
Tips:
- If you have time, store in refrigerator for a half hour to chill and to let the onions and tomatoes marinate in the juices.
- The shelf life of a peeled avocado is not very good, so make sure you finish the salad in a day or so.
- If available, use cherry or grape tomatoes. They add to the color and hold up better in salads.

This recipe is brilliant.! I came across this one yesterday lunch time and I have already had 4 servings of it.!! absolutely brilliant taste. I splashed a bit of basil infused olive oil as well. Brilliant as a pita bread stuffing.
Toast the a whole meal pita bead in bread toaster for 2 minutes/till it swells out. Pop it out. Use a knife o slit along one of the long edges. Spread some butter if you like. Then spread a layer of avacado salad.! A brilliant packed lunch idea.!

what kind of dressing is good for this salad?

Hi Mercy,
This salad uses lime juice as dressing ( a super tasty & healthy dressing), infact a most Indian salads use lime juice as a dressing! Also, most salads that are served with Indian food are an accompniment like chutney or pickles.
Enjoy this great salad as a add-on to the meal.

Hi Adi,
This is a accompniment for a meal. Also, servings will depend on the size of the avocado. An average size avocado will be perfect for 2-4 people.
Enjoy!

Yes, I was wondering why no one recognized that! This is totally guacamole that hasn’t been smashed/blended. I bet it is very tasty, especially with Mexican food.
