  1. Hi,
I wanted to know for how long do i have to thaw the coolwhip in the fridge? How long can I store this icecream in the freezer(will it stay good for weeeks or a month)

  2. Hi, Hetal & Anjua

I wanted tell you both that I made the Ice cream today using the above ingredients. Now please tell me the whipped topping in you video shows is same as what I bought. On your video the whipped topping is written on the container in big letter and the container that I bought it had coolwhipped written in big letter and than at bottom in smaller letter it had written whipped topping. So did I use the right one. If not, please tell me which section I can find the one you used on your video. On the mango pulp I used the Swad Mango pulp (sweetended). So, does the type and brand of mango pulp makes the taste different.

    1. Hi Shreya,

Cool Whip is a brand of whipped topping. It is available in the frozen foods aisle where all the other desserts are sold. If it came in a plastic tub, you bought the right one. Mango always tastes like mango, but the flavor is different for different types of mango. So, depending on which brand you use, it may change the flavor a bit, but it’ll still taste like mango.

  3. Hi, Hetal & Anuja

I have a quick question. I am going to make mango ice cream according to your recepie since my husband loves mango ice cream. I have a ice cream maker and my question is can I use exact same ingredients as the recepie and use the ice cream maker instead of freezing it.

    1. Hi Shreya,

This was a viewer submitted recipe so we followed it exactly. The whipped topping (Cool Whip) in this recipe makes this ice cream do-able without an ice cream maker. If you have an ice cream machine, you would probably need to substitute it with heavy whipping cream or a combination of heavy whipping cream and half n half. The quantity is a guess but probably the tall thin cardboard container (1 quart?).

  4. I made this on my kids birthday for 100 people. It was biggggg hit. Everybody like it. Thanks a lot for a wonderful recipe.

    1. Hii lakshmi

I am also planning to make this on my daughter’s 1st bday for 40 people but i am not able to figure the amount and how should i serve it?

I will glad if anyone can help me

  5. Hi,My son found your recipe and we have just put it in the freezer, we have used dessert topping(sweetened) and crossing my fingers it comes out right.
Can u give me the name of the brand of cool whip from the US, so I know I’m buying the right one.Is Cool whip sweet?
if I Substitute the dessert topping for whipped cream do I need to sweeten it ?
I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thanks

    1. Cool Whip is the brand name. On the packaging, it says “Non-dairy” Whipped Topping. It has a very slight sweet taste to it but not overly sweet. We’re not sure what the dessert topping you used is, but the sweetness in this recipe comes from the sweetened condensed milk.

  6. Dear Hetal

thanx 4 the reply…but is yr sweetend consended milk fat free…or how much % of fat should we use……i like creamy icecream.

  7. Dear lovly Didies,

    1. Hi Saj,

We’re so glad that you’re finding SMTC useful.

Regarding brand names, you can use any brand (even the local store brands).

  8. Hi Anuja &hetal,
I think this recipe you can try without ice-cream dessert. I have tried at my friend’s house and she named cream salad but it’s good to know for me I can use as a mango ice-cream. I wanted more tips from you regarding cutting vegetables and fruits by using automated kichen utensils.I really like the handy tip for cutting mango. I am hopping if you can show a video for quick cutting vegetables and fruits by using food processors or any other applinces since I am new here and don’t know how to do easy cooking without wasting time. That could be very helpful.

  9. Hi Kanya,

You could probably scale down the amount of condensed milk you use. There is no alternative to condensed milk in this recipe because it takes care of the milk and sugar in one shot. Since we are not using an ice cream maker, the use of anything liquid (such as regular milk or evaporated milk) will make the ice cream hard.

  10. Hi

wonderfull recipe, i tried it last week. I have one question, this ice-creem is little bit more sweet for me, so can i use any alternative to Condensed Milk?

thank you very much in advance. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. hi hetal

i realli loved your recepie thank you so much!!!!
and im a big fan of you and anuja… and i have one question…is anuja your sister??? you guys look alike thats why =)

  12. I was curious know as to what brand of the tinned Whipped topping was used in this recipe. Also is it available in any supermarket in UK ??? Please do let me know as i am very eager to try this out.

    Thank you.

  13. Hi Lakshmi,

We’ve never tried this recipe with the fat-free versions of condensed milk and cool whip, however the measurements should be the same. The only difference will probably be the texture of the ice cream. It may not be as creamy.

  14. Thanks so much for this wonderful recipe- Can we use fat free Condensed Milk and Cool Whip? Should we use two tubs of cool whip then?

This looks so delicious ! Your site is awesome !

    Lakshmi

    1. hey Laxmi,

I gave this a shot last night with Light Whipped Cream and Fat Free Condensed milk and it was delicious!! I also added some tutti fruti that I got from Indian store.

      Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. hi

  16. Hi Jane,

Someone from the UK tried this recipe by whipping double cream and substituting it instead of Cool Whip. She says it worked for her. (see comments above).

  17. Wow, this is a really good recipe. I live in Australia, and i didnt know what ‘cool wip’ was so i searched it on the net and it doesnt sell over here. ๐Ÿ™
do you know if there is a substitute for it?
please answer as soon as possibe,
Thanks so much for posting this,
    Jane

  18. Thank you for posting this, I love this recipe, I have made it 4 times with excellent results!!! I have also made it when visiting my family in the UK where I came across the same issue that others describe. I used whipping cream in the UK and just ended up freezing it for much longer than I would in the US. It turned out just fine, but you need to serve it immediately because it is quite soft compared to making it in the US. I also made it again recently and put the the ice-cream in a silicon cupcake tray so it made cute individual molds and then topped it with strawberries and mint!

  19. Hi Rad,

Whipped topping is available in the freezer dessert section. If you have something that says “frosting”, it is probably not the right thing. Cool Whip is the brand available in the US but many stores have their own generic brand which works just as well.

  20. Hi
I actually want to make this icecream.I bought this whipped cream topping(frosting) Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm not sure if it is the right one.Can you please let me know if thats the one.

  21. Thank you very very much for this recipe, I made it and it was so delicious that I can’t describe the taste in words.
Hetal and Anuja, your website is so helpful, all the recipes I tried were very easy-explained and tasty. My husband is Indian and he says that NOW the food I make is authentic Indian ๐Ÿ™‚
    Thank you very much,
    Zamira

  22. I tried the recipe this weekend, as I live in London I could not find whipped topping the way they show in this recipe, however I managed to find Bird’s dream topping which comes in sachet, just follow the instructions on the back and you will end up whipped topping as used in this recipe. Needless to say the mango ice cream turned delicious! My husband was quite impressed as I managed to make it just before we were heading out for a party!

  23. In the UK cause there isnt really a good whipped cream i used double cream and whipped it and the mango ice cream turned out well.
thanks for the excellent recipe ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Hi, i tried this recipe. mangoe icecream came out really good. Thank you very much for this wonderful recipe. I love coconut icecream i order it every time i go to thai restaurant.. I was wondering if you have recipe to make coconut icecream. if you do please post it. Thank you.

  25. Hmmm…That’s a shame as the one thing I like about this recipe is its sheer convenience. I can’t think of anything in the UK that is the equivalent, apart from Dream Topping but that’s just a packet mix. I will give it a go anyway, and see how it pans out.

  26. One more thing Charme,

You could use dairy whipped cream if you use an ice cream maker and churn the ice cream.

  27. Hi Charme,

Even though dairy whipped cream is light and fluffy, it won’t hold up to freezing. Cool Whip has something in it which lets it stay whipped.

    Hetal

  28. Hi,

I live in the UK, so I’ve got the same trouble getting hold of whipped topping. However, I was just wondering if bog-standard (dairy) whipped cream could be used as a substitute? After all, it’s just as light and fluffy.

    Thanks.

  29. Hi Daisy,

We suppose that you could add chocolate syrup but chocolate ice cream is so widely available that it doesn’t justify the effort. Mango ice cream is not available in many places (especially the US) so it makes it worthwhile and special. But, if you decide to try it, please let us know how it comes out. We’d be interested in knowing.

  30. Hi Shalini,

We have been hearing this a lot. There are other places which don’t have whipped topping. Unfortunately, that is the key ingredient which makes this ice cream light and fluffy without using an ice cream maker. Without it, it will be ice like. Sorry. If anyone of our viewers know of a substitute which is available, please share with us.

  31. Hi Anuja and Hetal,

Thanks for this recipe… it was just great!! I made it and it turned out just great. The pulp was a bit sour but it tasted well.. I was wondering if this recipe would work for Chocolate Ice Cream. Instead of the Mango pulp could i substitute with Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup and then the rest of the ingredients???

  32. Hi Anuja and Hetal,

Thanks for this yummy recepie ! My husband thought that I had bought this ice-cream ! He still wouldnt believe that I made it. It was indeed “Yum..Yum”. A big thanks to Vani for sharing this great recepie.

  33. hi anuja and hetal,

    the mango icecream looks great. thank u Vani for coming out with something fantabulous like this;

Now the problem that i face is that I dont stay in US. i live in Belgium. and to get something like whipped topping is difficult for us to find out because everything is written in dutch or french plus i dont have an icecream maker. so do i have any chances to make and enjoy this delicacy. v get mango here so thats not a problem.

    thank u

  34. Hi Ladies:
Tried the mango ice cream for 4th of July weekend. It was simply delicious! Lots of friends, American and Desi took the recipe from me and also the wonderful site you two have started. Thanks. I wanted to give you my Easy No-cook kulfi recipe. Take 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, 1and 1/2 pints of heavy cream and stir. Add any flavoring like pista, rose essence, elaichi and saffron and freeze for at least 5-8 hours in your freezer. (I put the liquid in kulfi/popsicle containers. ) If you add pista essence, put in crushed pista and green color for authentic look! Enjoy!

  35. Hi Roopa,

The Cool Whip in this recipe makes the ice cream fluffy without using an ice cream maker. If you use plain milk, it will freeze rock hard and the texture will be nothing like ice cream. You could substitute it with heavy whipping cream and use an ice cream maker. That will give you the best results. Good luck!

    1. I do not have an ice cream maker.
so could I hand whip the heavy whipping cream and add it to the mixture? Or will the whipped cream flatten??

      Thanks..

      1. Hi Sangeeta,

This recipe does NOT require an ice cream maker. If you do not have the ready whipped cream, you can hand whip the cream and add it.

  36. the recipe was so easy but i was wondering if i could substitute whipped topping with something else like milk

  37. Wow this ice-cream was really good. Vani must be a really gifted person to come up with this recipe. Thanks Vani, and thank you Hetal and Anuja for showing us how to do it. My family loved it. So thanks again Vani.

  38. Thank you guys.. i tried this ice cream and taste amszing.. my family were amazed by this recipe and ya its lot softer than kulfi.. had fun eating it..
    thank u

  39. Hi Hemisha,

You could use any fruit for this recipe. Mango pulp from a can is already super sweet so no sugar is necessary. If you use other fruits (like strawberries) you probably will want to add sugar to counter the tartness.

  40. Hi Trisha,

This ice cream is definitely softer than Kulfi, but maybe not as hard as store bought ice cream. The reason is the Cool Whip, which tends to crystallize when frozen. If you want the store bought softness, you would have to replace the cool whip with heavy whipping cream and then churn it in an ice cream maker. Also, this recipe is very very mango flavored so you should not need to add any essence to it. Some people do not prefer the canned mango pulp for various reasons so you could even use fresh mango pulp for the freshest mango taste.

    1. do you use the same amount like oz wise of cool whip for heavy whipping cream
like the container is 8 oz so i use 8 oz of whipping cream

  41. hi Hetal-Anuja. Thank you very much for sending such a beautiful recipe. I didn’t know making ice cream is so easy. Can i use strawberry pulp (which i made at home by crushing and blending fresh strawberries) instead of mango pulp.Do I need to add sugar in homemade strawberry pulp?

  42. Does this ice cream comes out soft like store bought ice cream or is it like Kulfi Hard? Also can u add mango assence for little more mango taste or it does taste like more like mango?

    thanks
