Hi,
i have been re-using glass jars since a long time .. but always have a tough time taking off the stickers from the jar..is there an easy way to remove these stickers so that they are more appealing to the eye?
i am a regular visitor of ur site.. and i love ur recipes.. kudos to both of you for putting up such a wonderful site..

I usually scrub the sticker away with steel mesh while washing the bottles. Even though they dont go away in the first scrub they gradually do.

toss the bottles in the dishwasher..they just come off on thier own.
I have another tip, after removing the sticker, instead of using them like that which sometimes is boring, we can do a lot of things to decorate them like
1.Glass etch some designs
2.spray paint the lids with some fun colours
3.stick a piece of label with a cute design and the name of the ingrediant
4.stick wallpaper on the bottles for a more chic look

when u have troubble taking off the ticker from the steel or glass ware just place it under the hot water tap it will come out easily

I don’t think that this is a good idea because we are using the same for drying hair also. We are using the jars for food items and i don’t want to use the hair dryer in that.
I used to put it in the dishwasher in the sanitize mode before using it to dry the bottle completely.
To remove the stickers, soak the bottle in the hot water for 10 minutes or so and it will come out easily.

You don’t really have to touch the dryer to the jar opening or the lid. It’s just air unless there’s physical contact!

It is not just air, even if you don’t touch, the hair dryer will smell like hairy like shampoo smell and all that.

I use the good thick jars to hold my cooking utensils. They are sturdy and look good filled up with my tools.I am not sure I’d want a hair product near my food things. I get the label off easily with some hot soapy water if it doesn’t come off in the dishwasher.

Hi Hetal & Anuja,
I find that sometimes no matter how much I wash jars of certain food products (pickles, garlic paste, etc.), the smell of the original food never really goes away completely. So I spend all that time and effort in trying to clean it, but eventually end up throwing it out because as far as I’m concerned, I can’t get it clean a 100%. Is there anything you can suggest for this problem?

Yeap……if you want to get rid of smell from bottle very easy to do it. Use few drops of oil and apply inside fully or you can use coriander powder instead with some water and leave that for few minutes. and after that wash it with soap water. you will get fresh smell from it…Just try at smaller container too. YOu will get perfect result..Believe me

You can put couple spoon of white vinegar and fill with leave it few hours and wah it.to removoe lable blow hot air on the lable glue will loosen and will be easy remove

I have occasionally solved this by putting in some crumpled newspaper in the completely dry container & closing the lid. Change the newspaper every 2-3 days. You may need to do it 2-3 times. I was able to get the smell out of the plastic jar in which I had bought the peeled garlic cloves. The problem seems to be more with the plastic containers rather than the glass ones, but the method works whatever way,

I rinse leftover jars with vinegar. That helps take away all the smell of the original food.

Hi …….! U can do one thing just pour sm hot water with lime juice n close it . Open it after 15-20 min , u vl find vry fresh smell u can rub lemon direct to d edges if it is pickle bottle

Hi…
To re use the glass jar use hot soapy water to wash it and the keep it in the oven for 30Secs or else just keep it in sunlight especially the lid because the lid only has strong smell of previous item.
And to remove sticker from new Silver Utensils just heat the pan in the stove just a little bit and the sticker will come away very very easily..Its Important to do this before wetting and using the utensil.

Hey try Annapurna Chakki Fresh atta, its really good. Before this brand i tried Aashirvaad Atta that was also good. But i love Annapurna chakki. I use it for pulkhas/chapati’s its really soft without a drop of oil. We can have fat free chapatis with any subzi.

I definitely don’t prefer using a hair dryer. After drying them in the dish washer, I generally put them in the microwave for 1/2 a min or so depending upon the thickness of the bottle. This worked for me very well.

Wash the jar; Dry it in microwave or over the gas for few seconds-let it rest[and cool] for few minutes. Refill the washed and dried jar with milk and water and leave it for an hour or so. This [milk] will also observe any residual smell. Wash it again and dry it. Finally take a sheet of kitchen towel [single sheet] and place it in the jar , close it with the jar’s lid and leave it over night. The towel will observe the smell also

Hello Hetal & Anuja,
I think that this is a great tip and as you say in your heading “Quick Reuse of Glass Jars”. Planned re-use could use any of the slower methods outlined for removing moisture.
The recycling of glass jars is a sure global energy conserving effort. It allows the purchase of non discrete packaged products and their home storage, a huge saving in both energy and materials and some (minor?) savings in money for the consumer. The drying of the jars with a hairdryer is effective and efficient for the amount of energy used. The risk from contaminants is very small if your hair-dryer is maintained and cleaned periodically. (If not the risk of fire or electrical incident is a far greater risk than that of contamination).
There are great tips for deodorising jars and lids here and it seems like a choice. I would also throw in here the use of dilute hypochlorite bleach, 30 minutes, followed with a rinse. This is quite effective at removing all kinds of hard to remove contaminants and also an anti-bacterial in most cases.

to remove the label from any kind of jars, plastic or glass use product name “goo gone” available at dollar store . dollar bottle last long for couple of year and label comes out like magic and actually goo gone is lemon oil so again going green.
