We were absolutely delighted to see stand-up comedian Russell Peters LIVE in action this weekend. Peters, a Canadian born Indian comic, performed in front of a packed house and had the crowd rolling in laughter. His style of comedy, mainly keen observances of the Indian culture, hits home for many Indians who have spent all or most of their lives in the US or Canada. If you want to spend an hour or so of…"Curry Girls Meet Russell Peters"

Last night I saw “Jodhaa Akbar”, an epic movie from renowned director Ashutosh Gowarikar. Starring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, the movie is an absolute must see. The cinematography and story telling in the movie are absolutely spell binding. The movie takes you back 450 years in history to the time of Emperor Akbar. The story revolves around a rajput princess named Jodhaa bai and her marriage of alliance to Akbar, a muslim emperor. Jodhaa’s…"Jodhaa Akbar Bollywood Movie Review"
You’d know that Miley Cyrus is the hottest ticket in town if you have a young daughter. My daughter is a huge fan of “Hannah Montana” and was really excited to go see the 3-D movie of her concert. As you probably heard, in December, there was a live concert by Miley Cyrus in Dallas. It sold out in minutes and the tickets were being sold by scalpers for ridiculous amounts of money. Some parents…"Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) 3-D concert movie"
I finally got around to watching the much anticipated (ok, maybe only for SRK fans) bollywood movie, “Om Shanti Om”, starring Shah Rukh Khan and newcomer, Deepika Padukone. Leave it to producer, Farah Khan, for coming up with movies with a slightly different feel to them. The movie has an impressive cast including Shreyas Talpade, Arjun Rampal, Kirron Kher, Yuvika Chaudary, Bindu, Jawed Sheikh, Satish Shah, Asawari Joshi, Nitish Pandey and Shawar Ali…not to mention…"Om Shanti Om Bollywood Movie Review"
A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. “Careful,” he said, “CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD! You’re cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They’re going to STICK! Careful . CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me…"Joke"
I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when I watched Chak De India, starring Shah Rukh Khan (Director: Shimit Amin; Producer: Aditya Chopra). Not being a big sports buff myself, I was a little reluctant to see a movie about a bunch of misfit women trying to play hockey. The story revolves around defamed ex-hockey player Kabir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) and his monumental attempt to redeem himself in front of his country."Chak De India – Bollywood Movie Review"
“There’s no need to fear. Underdog (rated PG) is here!” Disney’s latest canine caper, starring Jim Belushi, is here! Based loosely on the Underdog cartoon show from a few decades back, this action-packed adventure aims to please…6-8 year olds, that is. Having grown up watching the cartoon myself, I stepped into the theatre with feeling of nostalgia. A little ways into the film, I felt a twinge of disappointment. The thing I noticed and missed most…"Underdog Hollywood Movie Review – Rated PG"
Pura Vida! We heard and saw the phrase all throughout the trip to Costa Rica. Hmmm, what does it mean? So, here is Wikipedia’s explanation – “Pura Vida, literally translated means “Pure Life” but means contextually something approximate to “Purified life”, “This is living!”, “Going great”, or “Cool!” It can be used as a greeting, as a word of farewell, to express satisfaction, and in some instances to politely express indifference when describing something. The…"Our Journey Through Costa Rica"
I had been watching the short trailers of ‘Gandhi, My Father’ in awe. There something about Gandhi that always catches my attention and something about the title- Gandhi, My Father….WOW! I just realized I knew nothing at all about his children. Trying to remember what I had learnt in my history classes (most of which I slept through) did not prove fruitful either. I finally turned to the almighty- the net, the Internet! No luck,…"Gandhi, My Father – Bollywood Movie Review"
‘Do u wanna Partner O Partner..’ with the song in the top 10 of the Indian charts, the trailer being shown every 5 minutes on Desi TV and the combination of my son’s request, the song has been playing constantly around me for the last few months."Partner – Bollywood Movie Review – July 31, 2007"
I just watched Naqaab and thought I’d give my 2 cents worth. Naqaab, starring Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna and Urvashi Sharma and directed by Abbas Burmawalla and Mustan Burmawalla, starts off pretty routinely. You could have watched a hundred movies with the same premise — rich guy, poor girl, handsome third wheel, etc, etc."Naqaab – Bollywood movie review"
