We were absolutely delighted to see stand-up comedian Russell Peters LIVE in action this weekend. Peters, a Canadian born Indian comic, performed in front of a packed house and had the crowd rolling in laughter. His style of comedy, mainly keen observances of the Indian culture, hits home for many Indians who have [...]
Last week, we are had a lot of interesting discussions. The best part was the interactive part…thanks to that, we have now come to know some of you who were able to stop by and chat with us. We talked and discussed some cooking tips, we made this awesome and very versatile Fruit dish (and [...]
Last night I saw “Jodhaa Akbar”, an epic movie from renowned director Ashutosh Gowarikar. Starring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, the movie is an absolute must see. The cinematography and story telling in the movie are absolutely spell binding. The movie takes you back 450 years in history to the time of [...]
You’d know that Miley Cyrus is the hottest ticket in town if you have a young daughter. My daughter is a huge fan of “Hannah Montana” and was really excited to go see the 3-D movie of her concert. As you probably heard, in December, there was a live concert by Miley Cyrus [...]
I finally got around to watching the much anticipated (ok, maybe only for SRK fans) bollywood movie, “Om Shanti Om”, starring Shah Rukh Khan and newcomer, Deepika Padukone. Leave it to producer, Farah Khan, for coming up with movies with a slightly different feel to them. The movie has an impressive cast including Shreyas Talpade, [...]
A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.
Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. “Careful,” he said, “CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD! You’re cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to [...]
I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when I watched Chak De India, starring Shah Rukh Khan (Director: Shimit Amin; Producer: Aditya Chopra). Not being a big sports buff myself, I was a little reluctant to see a movie about a bunch of misfit women trying to play hockey.
The story revolves around defamed ex-hockey player Kabir [...]
“There’s no need to fear. Underdog (rated PG) is here!” Disney’s latest canine caper, starring Jim Belushi, is here! Based loosely on the Underdog cartoon show from a few decades back, this action-packed adventure aims to please…6-8 year olds, that is. Having grown up watching the cartoon myself, I stepped into the theatre with feeling of [...]
Pura Vida! We heard and saw the phrase all throughout the trip to Costa Rica. Hmmm, what does it mean? So, here is Wikipedia’s explanation – “Pura Vida, literally translated means “Pure Life” but means contextually something approximate to “Purified life”, “This is living!”, “Going great”, or “Cool!” It can be used as a greeting, [...]
I had been watching the short trailers of ‘Gandhi, My Father’ in awe. There something about Gandhi that always catches my attention and something about the title- Gandhi, My Father….WOW! I just realized I knew nothing at all about his children. Trying to remember what I had learnt in my history classes (most of which [...]
‘Do u wanna Partner O Partner..’ with the song in the top 10 of the
Indian charts, the trailer being shown every 5 minutes on Desi TV and
the combination of my son’s request, the song has been playing
constantly around me for the last few months.
I just watched Naqaab and thought I’d give my 2 cents worth. Naqaab, starring Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna and Urvashi Sharma and directed by Abbas Burmawalla and Mustan Burmawalla, starts off pretty routinely. You could have watched a hundred movies with the same premise — rich guy, poor girl, handsome third wheel, etc, etc.
Sandwich shop manager Mohammad Kashif Memon from Pakistan dances to Bollywood on America’s Got Talent show in Chicago. Watch this video of Kashif doing a Hrithik Roshan number. He sure brings the house down. This video has received 200,000 plus hits thus far.
