Jalebi Pudding

After the festivals are over, we sometimes have a lot of jalebi left over. Once everyone in the house has had enough of it, we make this great jalebi pudding dessert recipe that just can’t be any easier!

Ingredients:

Jalebi – 3, big or to taste
Whole Milk – 2 cups
Eggs – 2

Method:

1. Break the eggs into the milk and gently hand blend it well all together.
2. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius).
3. Grease the dish that you will bake in with cooking spray.
4. Break the Jalebis into bite size pieces and put it into the baking dish.
5. Pour in the Milk and Egg mixture.
6. Put the dish into the oven to cook for 1 hour, uncovered.
7. Once out of the oven, allow it to stand for 5-10 minutes.
8. Loosen the edges and flip the pudding into a platter for serving.
9. Jalebi Pudding is best served hot. Serves 4-6.

Tips:

1. Do not eat/serve the pudding straight out of the oven, it is very hot and can burn.
2. You don’t have to flip the pudding but the presentation is a lot better.

  1. hi….

don’t you need to add any sweetener to egg and milk…?
btw ..i made jalebi’s which turned out to be very soggy….can i use them to make this pudding…??

won’t this taste good cold also…??

    let me know ..thanks..!!

    1. Hi Sanjivni,

Jalebis are pretty sweet for our taste so we did not add any additional sugar. However, if you prefer sweeter desserts, you can definitely add sugar. Yes, soggy jalebis will work perfectly for this recipe. We have not tried it cold but we’re sure it would taste great.

      1. this recipe was good….i liked it cold….i added a bit of sugar maybe 3 tbsp to the egg -milk mix..but you are right ..without sugar, it would have been nicer…as jalebis are quite sweet….it disguised the soggy jalebis very well.. …thanks..it was a great recipe….have put the pic on fb..:) thanks a lot..!!

  2. hi hetal,

  3. Thank you so much for the exceptional pudding recipe. could you kindly tell me how to put into oven… I should use water underneath the bowl or not? When I do the regular pudding I put water under the bowl. Please let me know.

    1. Hi Riz,

You might be able to make this with a steaming method (similar to idli or dhokla). Put some water in a large pan and let it boil. Place another plate inside the pan with your mixture. It should rest on something to keep it from sinking in the water. Cover and steam until done. We have never tried this method so if you try it, please make a smaller batch.

  4. Hi Hetal & Anuja
Mouth watering recipe……….Can u please tell me at what temperature we have to keep it in oven for 1 hour. Waiting for your reply….. to try out this delicious dessert.

  5. Hi Hetal and Anuja,

Thanks for the wonderful and easy recipe. Can we substitute the jalebis with sugar. How much sugar will be required for this recipe.

Thanks in advance and all the best!

  6. hi hetal n anuja,
this seems to b a wonderful dessert. here is one doubt like u told it best served hot, so can i reheat it in microwave or some other way?
as i want to prepare it till evening but for after the dinner.

  7. Hetal and Anuja,

Terrific work! I’m wondering if you have a dessert for a bread pudding or a desi version of something very close to that on this site. There’s a special lady friend who absolutely adores it and I’d love to be able to cook for her.

    Best regards.

  8. Hi Hetal & Anuja,
I don’t know what I did wrong with this one.. especially since it’s so straight-forward to begin with. My pudding was quite liquidy in the middle, and the yolk part of the egg seemed to have surfaced to the top. Not only did it have a clearly more yellow colour; I could also clearly taste the egg. I put it back in for an extra 20 mins, but didn’t seem to do much. Maybe I’ll try making this again in a less deep, but wider dish. Hopefully it’ll work then. 🙂

  9. Hi, Anuja & Hetal

  11. Hi Sejal,
If the glass dish is oven-safe than it is OK to use it in the oven. If I were you, I would not put it in if I am not sure. There are a lot of glass and pyrex dishes that are oven proof/ oven safe.
    Cheers!

  12. hi Guts quick question when put the bowl in the oven did you put anything underneath or in a roasting pa with some water in it… i am asking because i am too scared to put a glass bowl in the oven! please reply soon as i want to make it this weekend!
