    1. I just found this recipie and I must try it this week.

I don’t know of a replacement for the sweet potato but the apple can be replaced with Jicima. It has a texture similar to an apple, but more mild in flavor. It also has some “clean” notes similar to celery. It’s very cooling and it pairs very well with Chiles and cilantro.

Its what I will be doing this week because I am allergic to raw apples.

  4. Hi Hetal & Anuja,
Do you guys know a good substitute for brown sugar? If so, please get back to me. Urgent cake reciepe(all shops closed, except kiosks). Anybody else got an idea? Please reply!!!
    Thanking you in advance,
    Dilini
    PS : LOVE your cooking!

    1. Hi Dilini,

I have read somewhere that you can use honey as a substitute for brown sugar. You would have to use about 7/8 cup of honey for every cup of sugar. You would also have to reduce any other liquid in the recipe by 3 tablespoons. WE have not tried it, so we cannot give you an accurate feedback if it works well or not. Sorry.

  5. Awesome recipe . Made it twice in a week. Never thought tart apples taste so delicious this way. What a combination ! Absolutely loved it ! Shared your website with family n friends.

Would love to see more such recipes from you two.

    Thanks ladies !

  6. Made it, loved it, kids were especially pleased. This despite an error on my part- I bought Romaine lettuce hearts rather than a cabbage-shaped lettuce head, and this didn’t help with making lettuce-wraps. Instead, we ate it as lettuce boats with the filling.

  7. Hi Hetal n Anuja,

    1. Hi Shilpa,

Thanks so much for your kind words! Wow, we’ve never had anyone tell us that we are bedtime favorites :). Your daughter, Kanupriya, sounds sooo sweet. Please give her a big hug from us!

  8. When you eat foods rich in these vitamins, vitamin A (found in carrots and sweet potatoes), vitamin D (found in fish), vitamin K (found in leafy greens), and vitamin E (found in almond ) consider adding a little heart-healthy oils like olive or canola. This will help absorb vitamins

  9. Hi!Aunties,
Wow,this video is inspiring me to make this easy recipe. But,I don’t know what is Sweet Potato? In Tamil or in Sinhala?

Anybody who knows about this, pleas reply me.Somebody gave me 2 tins of mashed beans. One is named “PEELED MEDAMMES”,and other one is “PEELED FAVA BEANS”.I don’t know what to do with this.Should I use this for any recipes? Or can I eat this directly without make anything?

    1. Hi Sumi,

Not sure what sweet potatoes are called in Tamil (maybe some of our other viewers can help). Regarding the tins, very few items taste good right out of the tin. You should probably make something out of it.

  10. Im just curioud as to how differnt would adding jeera powder and red chilli powder taste as compared to usuing the fresh ground one in this recipe?

    1. Hi Sri,

Fresh roasted and ground spices make a world of difference in aroma and flavor. However, if you don’t have them, cumin powder and chili powder will work.

      1. Hi Hetal & anuja,

I was a little sceptical about this when I saw it first, considering I’m not a fan of any of the individual ingredients. But it tried it and it was bursting with flavors and had great texture, not to mention that its so healthy too. Thanks for doing it again and giving us a dish that can be made and eaten over and over again.
        – your biggest fan!

  11. Great video ladies, and a very worthy cause that highlights global inequalities. It is dreadful that such problems still exist, particularly when the US and Europe are struggling to manage obesity!

I’m not the biggest fan of sweet potatoes, tart apples, or lettuce but can see you enjoyed the dish. I’ll reserve judgement for now….

  12. Wonderful thoughts about world hunger and a yummy recipe to boot! The cilantro and lime juice sound refreshing!

Just wanted to add that Vitamin A is a fat soluable vitamin. Without proper fat in the diet Vitamin A cannot be absorbed.

    Regards,
    Stephanie

  13. Hi to both of you, and many thanks for your wonderful videos and concern. One worried question, though: will these potatoes be genetically mutated to increase “nutrition?” I’ve done quite a bit of research into GMO foods and find that the potential for harm could be devastating and irreversible. Here’s a link with some very simple and challenging information. http://www.organicauthority.com/foodie-buzz/eight-reasons-gmos-are-bad-for-you.html

I don’t wish to be an alarmist. I just want to make sure that we don’t make the problem of world hunger larger. Perhaps the standard, organically grown sweet potato would be enough on it’s own to begin.

    Kind regards, J
