  1. The way I cut a pineapple is using a metal Pineapple corer found on Amazon.com. Cutting a pineapple using a kitchen knife is great but does create a little extra mess and takes a little more time. However using the pineapple corer is super fast and neat. Only down side is that you are left with as much flesh as the diameter of the corer. i.e there will be some wastage. Hence I try to use slightly smaller pineapples for this purpose.
Cut off the top of the pineapple. Place the corer on the center of the pineapple and rotate to cut the pineapple spirally. After it penetrates the bottom, pull out the entire thing out. The pineapple flesh comes out in a cylindrical spiral which can then be cut up and served without any mess.

  2. Hi Hetal/Anuja,

    I have a couple urgent question –

After viewing your video, I got a pineapple, cut both the ends and let it rest in the refrigerator uncovered for a day (sorry, got busy and did not get the time to cut it to chunks). The next day (today) I peeled it and chopped it into bite size pieces. It’s definately a lot for me to eat. So, my questions are:

    1. As I cut the bottom and top and kept it open in the refrigerator, has it started fermenting? Sorry, not really sure how the fresh pineapple should look like, the color looks great, but not sure about the fermenting part..

    2. I have stored the leftovers in a tight container. How long will it stay fresh in the refrigerator?

Please reply if you have some time. I don’t want to eat bad pineapple (if it’s getting bad). And might try ways to extend its life by other means if its not meant to stay more than a couple days..

I have to say – the video really gave me courage to get the pineapple first time in my life. It is an intimidating looking fruit, but your video and demo really helped! You guys rock!

    Thanks,
    James

    1. Hi James,

We have not heard of pineapples fermenting in the fridge, especially if it was only one day. It should be fine. As long as you store the cut chunks in an air tight container, the pineapple should be fresh for up to 4-5 days.

      1. Thanks Ladies! It’s still fresh (today is 5th day)-not that I am trying to save it for a rainy day. It just happens that pineapple is huge to be eaten by a single person. Hopefully, I might find it good a couple more days to finish it off.

BTW, how would I know it’s going bad? Any ideas?

        James

  3. Just wanted to add one thing, before you cut the pineapple, you make the pineapple in a sleeping position so that all the juice is spread across evenly and it taste juicer and better in the whole and not just at the bottom.

  4. Enjoying your site. With the Pineapple – after taking off the top turn the pineapple upside down and let it rest for a day(on counter or in fridge) and this way all the juices that are in the bottom will come to the top making the whole pineapple more favourful and juicy.

  6. Hi Anuja/Hetal,

I would really appreciate your reply of my knife set question one post above. I am looking forward to buy a knife set soon and need your help!

  7. Just the other day I was lamenting how I have stopped eating pineapples because “they are so intimidating” (yes, my exact words too!) to cut. And I absolutely hate the sugary syrupy things they sell as pineapples in cans. Thanks a lot for this video! Just added pineapple to my grocery list 🙂

  8. Hi Anuja/Hetal,

This tip is really great. I am big fan of Pineapples..infact it’s my favorite fruit, but i am not able to enjoy them as often ever since I came to States.

Just a quick question though. I was wondering which brand knives you used for cutting. i have wanted money twice on really crapy knives and this time I want to make wise investment. Please suggest!

    Thanks

    1. Hey, Buy Jinsu knive set. Though the set has lot of knives, their quality is best. The knife is sharp, sturdy and in different length depending on purpose. I have bought myself as well as gifted to many others.I think the price is slightly above to other brand.but it is a great investment. have got a broken knife after 3-4 years of use.

  9. Hi Anuja and Hetal,
Do you think you will ever show how to cut open a coconut and get out the coconut meat? I’ve tried and it seems like such a pain. I had hoped you might have a tip for an easier way. Thanks so much for adding a pinch of spice to our lives!

  10. dear hetal n anuja,
    hi there!
i am a great fan of your site and have fallen in love with the art of cooking, thanx to u.
i wanna know how to store health drinks like horlicks, etc once the seal of the bottle or pouch is opened since every time i tried keeping them in airtight containers, they still tend to form hard lumps which r impossible to break.Ihave wasted a lot of them so kindly advise how to store and use them.
    Thanx…..happy navaratri,
    love,
    gayatri

    1. Hi Gayatri,

There are a couple of things you can do to avoid moisture and lumps. First of all, do not store the air tight container in the refrigerator or in a cabinet directly above your stove. Second, do not keep a spoon in the container because when you add a spoonful of the powder to a cup of hot milk, the steam from the milk will get on the spoon. When you place the steamy spoon back into the container, it will form lumps. If you buy a pouch, you can consider storing the entire pouch in a ziploc bag.

  11. Hi Hetal & Anuja u r doing a great job and ur tips r simply great.i have one question when i am boiling milk for curd r for sweet rice in a nonstick pan.The milk is sticking to the bottom of the pan.to avoid this what can i do?r any other option is there for boiling milk for preparing curd can u plz help me in this ………..

    1. Hi Sandhya,

The best way to boil milk without sticking is in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl. It may take you a few attempt to find out exactly how many minutes to make it boil, but after that, it is easy. Be sure you DO NOT stir the milk while it is cooking.

If you use the stove, you have to stir very frequently. One tip when using a steel pan to boil milk is to coat the inside with plain water before adding your milk. The water keeps the milk fat from sticking to the steel. You still have to keep stirring often. I have not tried this water trick on non-stick pans.

  12. Hi Hetal & Anuja,
